Traverse the Wilderness of Big Bear on a Horseback Journey

Many of the wonderful trails that have come to define Big Bear as an excellent place to hike are also accessible on horseback, enabling you to enjoy the same breathtaking panoramas without as much strenuous activity. Learn More About Big Bear Horseback Riding

Horses are better adapted to covering rocky or steep terrain and travel at a faster pace. Riding on a horse also means that you have a built-in companion for your excursions on the trails, and that you get to form a temporary bond with a beautiful, majestic animal.

Two of the best purveyors of Big Bear horseback riding and tours are Big Bear Equestrian Center and Baldwin Lake Stables.

Located on Bear Valley Farms to the east of Big Bear Lake, the Big Bear Equestrian Center offers pony rides and a petting zoo for children, in addition to their standard Big Bear horseback rides. With a single admission fee of $10.00 for children eleven years and younger and $20.00 for adults, you can ride horses and ponies and enter the petting zoo for an unlimited number of times.

Similarly, Baldwin Lake Stables is also located east of Big Bear Lake and also has a petting zoo and pony rides. However, they offer trail tours all year long with reservations, ranging from one hour rides that span over the course of multiple trails to a half-day ride on the famously beautiful and challenging Pacific Crest Trail. Their sunset tours, which are particularly popular, are offered seasonally. Private guided trail rides are also available with reservations.
