Gold Rush Mining Adventures

Spend a part of your vacation like a prospector. Visitors of all ages will love learning about California’s historic Gold Rush period of the 1800s. Shout “Eureka!” at your finds during the Geode breaking activity or Gemstone and Fossil panning activities. Don’t worry, you won’t go home empty-handed. No two bags of loot will be exactly alike and include real gemstones, fossils, and geodes. Some finds may even be big enough to be cut into faceted jewelry or polished into a non-faceted gemstone! You can also keep them the way you found them – in the raw form Mother Nature intended them to be.

Alpine Pedal Path

While hiking trails may not be the ideal path for a biking adventure, there is a unique and all-ages-friendly path on the north shore of Big Bear Lake. The Alpine Pedal Path is only 2.5 miles and is mostly asphalt. Rent some bikes and point them in the direction of the mostly flat trail which runs close to the water and through the trees for a great way to exercise in the fresh mountain air. Start your trip at the Stanfield Cutoff and end near the Solar Observatory. You and your group can stick together, but make sure to look out for locals and other guests out for a walk, jog, or gliding around on rollerblades.
