Big Bear’s Favorite Springtime Event
May 18, 25-26, 2024
It’s time for Old-Man Winter to step aside and make way for Big Bear’s favorite springtime celebration. The 7th Annual Big Bear Lake Maifest (pronounced My Fest) has grown quite a buzz as Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest’s little sister. The festive event consistently delivers the same ambiance of cheerful revelries as Oktoberfest, but with a vibrant flare that screams springtime. The 7th Annual Big Bear Lake Maifest kicks off Saturday, May 18 with a special tribute to America’s Heroes (U.S. Military, law enforcement and firefighters). The festivities continue the following weekend for two more dates Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26 (Memorial Day Weekend). While Maifest is scaled back a bit from her big sister Oktoberfest, there’s one thing for certain and that is she packs a big punch! Here’s what you can expect…
This all-woman band plays a mix of traditional polka songs and classics that everyone can sing along to. The mix of accordion, tuba, and drums make for a perfect polka feel and the yodelers voice acrobatics are the cherry on top. Yodelstar Kathrin Jakob was born in Munich and raised in a medium sized village in Bavaria. She brings a special talent to the stage with a wide-range of yodeling and singing!
This spirited, lederhosen-wearing, professional polka-playing group of musicians have been performing together since 2016. They deliver a hearty blend of polka, waltzes, and contemporary pop. Along with traditional German music, they mix it up the fun with pop, rock, funk and a variety of styles and covers. A lively show that is bound to get you on the dance floor!
Die Gemütlichen Schühplattler Dancers
Big Bear Lake Maifest is pleased to present Die Gemütlichen Schühplattler Dancers. The always entertaining dance troupe from Orange County performs customary Maypole dances on Saturday, May 27 and Sunday, May 28. Die Gemütlichen Schühplattler Dancers perform a lively show of traditional shoe-slapping, dirndl twirling, maypole-ribbon dancing, and playing wooden spoons.
Maifest features a full line-up of German & Craft beers plus a FULL bar! Enjoy a Sam’s Lemonade, a Strawberry Crawl, a shot, or your favorite mixed drink! When the mountain stirs up your appetite Maifest features a variety of German favorites and American Fair Foods. German specialties include Sizzling Bratwursts and Sausage varieties, hot or fresh off the grill, Homemade Sauerkraut, Fresh Pretzels, and Apple Strudel with Vanilla Sauce.
What would a typical German Maifest be without a good German beer? This year’s Maifest features Brewer’s Gold!
• Springfest Brewers Gold
• Warsteiner Oktoberfest
• Warsteiner Dunkel
• Konig Ludwig Hefeweisen
• Warsteiner Pilsner
• Stella Artois
• Firestone 805
• Elysian Space Dust IPA
• Two Coast German IPA
• Kona Big Wave Blonde
• Golden Road Mango Cart
• 2nd Chance Beer Co. Buddy Lager
• Coors Light
Another bonus is Maifest makes it easy to get to the event and back safely. This year, the Free Big Bear Trolley gives complimentary rides to the Big Bear Lake Convention Center (home to Maifest), as one of the Free Trolley’s regular stops. With limited parking capacity, Big Bear Lake Maifest organizers encourage guests to hop on The Free Big Bear Trolley to catch a free ride to the event. Maifest guests are encouraged to visit MountainTransit.org to view the different routes and schedules to determine which bus stop best services them for a free ride.
