Big Bear is known as a year-round vacation destination for many reasons. The area has nearly 300 days of sunshine a year, and no matter what time of year you decide to visit, there are plenty of fun outdoor activities.
During the summer, Big Bear Lake is the area’s main attraction. The lake is popular for fishing, swimming, boating, and active watersports. We have several lakefront cabins as well as cabins that are just a short walk to the lake. Several of our lakefront cabins have docks that you can fish and swim off of or sit on your private patio with a drink and enjoy stunning views of the lake.
Fall, winter, and spring are also great times to explore the miles of hiking trails around the lake. There are several hikes to choose from all with varying degrees of difficulty that will take you to vistas for stunning views of Big Bear Lake and the surrounding mountains. Some of the most popular trails are the Cougar Crest Trail and the Pine Knot Trail. Be sure to bring weather appropriate clothing and food and water on your hike. Many of the trails also require an Adventure Pass to park at the trail. Adventure Passes can be purchased at several stores around Big Bear Lake including 7Eleven and Alpine Liquor.
During the winter Big Bear is a popular vacation spot for skiing. There are two ski resorts near the lake, Big Bear and Snow Summit. Both are family-friendly and are popular among skiers and snowboarders. If you are visiting Big Bear during the winter, we have several cabins that are walking distance to the base of Snow Summit as well as to a shuttle that will take you to Big Bear Ski Resort.
