If you’re flying to Big Bear, the nearest airport is Ontario International Airport. Other close by options include Palm Springs International Airport, John Wayne Airport in Orange County, and LAX in Los Angeles. If you are looking for transportation to Bear Mountain or Snow Summit, you will want to arrive before 9:30 a.m. on peak weekends and holidays, and before 10:00 a.m. during regular weekends to secure a spot in the lots before they fill. There is a free shuttle from the parking lots to Bear Mountain and Snow Summit.
Most of the buses around Big Bear and into the surrounding areas run once per hour and cost $1.50. Buses run to surrounding areas such as Boulder Bay, Vons, Mountain Meadows, Gold Mountain, Big Bear Valley, Running Springs, San Bernardino, Erwin Lake, Lucerne, Apple Valley, and Victorville. There is also a Big Bear Weekend Trolley for passengers going to popular stops such as Snow Summit, Bear Mountain Ski Resort, and Alpine Zoo. If you’re headed to a biking trail, all Mountain Transit buses are equipped with bike racks capable of transporting two bicycles.
