Airports

If you’re flying to Big Bear, the nearest airport is Ontario International Airport. Other close by options include Palm Springs International Airport, John Wayne Airport in Orange County, and LAX in Los Angeles. All of these airports offer rental car options so that you can conveniently pick up a car upon arrival.

Well-known rental car companies such as Avis, Alamo, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz, Dollar, National, Payless, and Thrifty are all conveniently located at Ontario Airport. Renting a car will allow you all of the convenience you’ll need for Big Bear transportation and getting around the surrounding area. A rental car will also allow you to further explore the amazing wilderness areas surrounding Big Bear, such as Angeles National Forest, San Bernardino National Forest, and Joshua Tree National Park.

Parking

Most vacation rentals have parking available for your rental car. There are also five free city lots with space for 600 vehicles in Big Bear Lake Village, as well as various other lots in the surrounding area.

Park & Ride

If you are looking for transportation to Bear Mountain or Snow Summit, you will want to arrive before 9:30 a.m. on peak weekends and holidays, and before 10:00 a.m. during regular weekends to secure a spot in the lots before they fill. There is a free shuttle from the parking lots to Bear Mountain and Snow Summit.

Mountain Transit Bus System

Most of the buses around Big Bear and into the surrounding areas run once per hour and cost $1.50. Buses run to surrounding areas such as Boulder Bay, Vons, Mountain Meadows, Gold Mountain, Big Bear Valley, Running Springs, San Bernardino, Erwin Lake, Lucerne, Apple Valley, and Victorville. There is also a Big Bear Weekend Trolley for passengers going to popular stops such as Snow Summit, Bear Mountain Ski Resort, and Alpine Zoo. If you’re headed to a biking trail, all Mountain Transit buses are equipped with bike racks capable of transporting two bicycles.
