Visit Big Bear Lake During the Summer
Summer temperatures in Big Bear hover around 80 degrees Fahrenheit, and there are on average only a few days of rain each summer. There are several ways to enjoy the lake, from relaxing on the shore to swimming, exploring the lake by boat, or fishing.
Big Bear Lake is one of the most popular fishing destinations in Southern California. There are several locations where you can fish from the shore, and you can rent fishing gear and purchase bait at stores around the lake. The most common fish to catch in the freshwater reservoir are rainbow trout, but you can also catch bass, catfish, and bluegill.
If you want to fish on the lake, there are several fishing charters that will take you out on the lake to some of the best fishing spots. Lucky Bear Fishing Charters offers half- and full-day charters where they provide all the fishing gear as well as water and snacks. In the state of California, everyone over the age of 16 must have a fishing license. Fishing licenses can be purchased at most stores on the lake where fishing gear is sold.
If you enjoy active water sports, rent a jet ski, kayak, canoe, or standup paddleboard to take out on the lake. Big Bear Lake also has the only on-the-water amusement park in the State of California. The Tarzan Boat is a floating amusement park with trampolines, a waterslide, a rope swing, and six and twelve-foot platforms to jump off of into the water.
For a relaxing vacation, spend your days laying out on the shore of the lake. There are several beaches on the lake where you can spend the day laying in the sand and swimming in the waters off the shore. Meadow Park is a popular beach for families because there are public restrooms, a snack bar, a floating dock, and lifeguards on duty.
You can swim anywhere around the lake, just make sure to watch out for boats and wear a life jacket if you aren’t an experienced swimmer. The Lake Management also requires that you swim within 50 feet of the shore.
Visit Big Bear Lake During the Winter
While summer is the best time of year to enjoy the lake, Big Bear is a popular vacation destination year-round with nearly 300 days of sun each year. During the winter you can enjoy views of Big Bear Lake from your lakefront home. Sit next to your fireplace and warm up while you look out on the shimmering lake set against the backdrop of the snow-covered mountains.
