Take a much-needed break to a locale full of fresh mountain air, lake calm, and small-town charm this spring. Point your compass to Big Bear and create a springtime retreat that will be fun for all. When these are the major features of your vacation destination, you’ll want to soak up all the fun event excitement you can while you’re here. Make sure your spring retreat is the best it can be and experience a variety of year-round and springtime-only activities to make your Big Bear spring vacation one of a kind.

Spartan Trifecta Weekend

While many take vacation to mean relaxing and lounging around, others take the time to add in physical fitness, too. You may let your workout routine slide during vacation, or you can race with the best Spartans around. Choose from the “Spartan Sprint” 5K, “Spartan Super” 10K, or take the ultimate test: the “Spartan Beast” 21K race.

Other races include the Spartan Kids Race, Adaptive Races, and 10K Trail Race. No matter how you strut your stuff, register for the Big Bear races online on the Spartan race website. Registration is open now for the May 18-19, 2024 event.

Grill & Chill Festival

While it takes place the weekend of the unofficial start to summer, it’s still springtime. The annual festival is held Memorial Day weekend, and includes delicious BBQ, craft beer, live music, shopping, activities for the kids, and more. A number of food trucks will be serving up the “grill” – ribs, brisket, pork butt, and more. They’ll be accompanied by booths from over 40 breweries serving their best brews.
The event takes place in The Village at Big Bear Lake at 630 Bartlett Road. Stop by 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on May 25 and 26, 2024. The town website has a link to the event page where you can buy tickets or contact Big Bear Brewing Company for more information.

Maifest

You’re here in spring, but you want to experience the fall celebration of Oktoberfest. Known as Oktoberfest’s little sister, it offers a similar atmosphere. The festival is the traditional German festival that celebrates the spring season. Enjoy beers like Maibock, or fruity libations include Maibowle – a champagne-style punch. Add in delicious bratwursts and homemade sauerkraut, fresh pretzels, apple strudel, and more.
Add in the fun of live German tunes and entertainment, as well as traditional German games and activities, and it’s a recipe for fun this spring. The event takes place Saturday, May 18, 2024, and Saturday and Sunday May 25-26, 2024.

Fishin’ for $50K Trout Tournament

Fishing is often a solitary activity, and you can cast a line on your own if you wish during a vacation focused on Big Bear spring events. For those anglers that are in it for sport and big prizes, schedule your Big Bear retreat in late spring. Once you’ve scheduled your trip, register for the tournament where you can earn big prizes.
There are 30 tagged trout to be had, and five of them are specially tagged to be Grand Prize Winners worth $10K each – get them all and bring home $50K! There will also be weight class prizes for child and adult groups, plus raffle prizes. If you don’t win the big bucks, you could score some new fishing equipment. Check the town website for more information on how to register. The event takes place June 8-9, 2024.

Big Bear Lake Carp Round-Up

Big Bear Lake and the Big Bear Municipal Water District needs your help! Carp are actually an invasive species to the waters of Big Bear Lake. The annual tournament helps remove some of them to make way for a healthier lake and help our native species thrive. The tournament draws anglers from across the U.S. to the shores of Big Bear Lake.

Prizes will be awarded for 1st-3rd place in shoreline bowfishing, boat bowfishing, and “fishing only” hunters. Other awards include Biggest Goldfish, 50/50 Biggest Carp Side Pool (optional), Biggest Carp (by weight), Smallest Carp (by weight), and Biggest Catfish.

Registration and full details for the 2024 event have not yet been released. The event is June 15-16, 2024.
