Spending a little time planning ahead for your trip to Big Bear can save you money and ensure that your time in Big Bear is spent enjoying the area rather than making plans. Here are a few Insider Big Bear Tips for your visit!

Save Money on the Slopes

If you’re heading to Big Bear to hit the slopes, ski season runs from December to March. The end of the season can sometimes see icy conditions, best avoided by beginners. Save some money by purchasing your lift pass online in advance. Purchasing tickets ahead of time from Liftopia can save you up to 20% on one, two, or three-day lift passes. Bringing your own gear can also help save on rental fees, which run $36 per day.

Visit During Off Seasons

To avoid the crowds, head to Big Bear during the low tourist seasons. It tends to be least crowded March – June, between ski season and summer. Tourism tapers off again between September – November, with the exception of the Oktoberfest crowd. Fall can be a beautiful time to visit Big Bear. With red, orange, and yellow leaves dotting the trees, the already beautiful Big Bear landscape is brightened with the expectation of autumn. With temperatures still hovering from the mid-50s to mid-70s, the temperature is moderate and many outdoor activities such as hiking and biking can still be enjoyed before the snowfall hits.

Head to the Village

The downtown area of Big Bear Lake is simply known as The Village. While you’re unlikely to come to Big Bear for the shopping, The Village has over 120 local vendors and provides more than a shopping experience. With cobblestone streets lined with trees, rustic shops, and quaint cafes, there are plenty of hidden gems to find around every corner.
