This Maple Hill Trail route is designed as a fun challenge and a way to honor the memory of Andrew Nettlebeck who was a long-time Big Bear High School Cross Country Coach who lost a fight to brain cancer in 2022. It’s a meaningful community event and run that’s open to the public, with registration fees going toward a scholarship fund in Andrew’s name. This month also marks the arrival of the annual Holcomb Valley Trail Run on June 14. Beginning at the Meadows Edge Picnic Area, the Holcomb Valley Trail Run works as an important fundraiser for the Big Bear Search & Rescue Organization each year. Participants run a trail through the San Bernardino National Forest that includes part of the impressive Pacific Crest Trail too. The run format spans 33 miles, 14 miles, and 7 miles, making this a challenging and memorable experience from start to finish.
