The Snow Summit Ski Resort is home to the only lift-serviced mountain biking park in all of Southern California. Widely varying terrain such as bridges, berms, and step-ups present an intriguing challenge to bike riders of all abilities.
The Skyline Ridge Trail, one of the most popular Big Bear mountain biking trails, passes through Snow Summit and has one of the most striking views in the entire valley. From here, you can see Big Bear Lake to the North and Mount San Gorgonio to the South.
The trail from Pine Knot Trail to Grand View Point consists of three miles of single-track that you can ride each way, while Cougar Crest Trail has two miles of single-track and Alpine Pedal Path has three and a half miles of paved pathway. Finally, Hanna Flats and Grays Peak have unbeatable views and a cross-country mountain biking descent, for those looking for a greater challenge than normal.
Depending on where you’re planning your mountain biking adventure, there are a wide variety of rental shops that can help you get started. Even if you’re bringing your own mountain bike to Big Bear on vacation, these stores can help with repairs, equipment, and trail advice that will come in handy.
If you’re interested in checking out the biking trails on Snow Summit, the resort is home to the Slopeside Rental Shop, which offers an array of downhill and cross-country mountain bikes and related gear, all situated just a short distance away from the scenic Sky Chairs that will take you to Southern California’s only mountain biking park with lift service.
With terrain ranging from step-ups and berms to bridges, Snow Summit’s park keeps things interesting for riders of all skill levels. If you’re just starting out, Small Wonder and the Skill Builder Park will be the best places for you. Advanced riders, meanwhile, should check out Miracle Mile and Party Wave. Tickets for the park are usually about $20 for a single day, with 20% discounts available if purchased at least 72 hours in advance.
To the north of Snow Summit along the southern shore of Big Bear Lake, Bear Valley Bikes offers bike rentals from $10 per hour for front suspension mountain bikes to $120 for a full day (eight hours) on a full suspension downhill mountain bike. Equipment and repairs are also offered.
