HomePlanning Your Vacation to Big Bear

From snow sports to summer days drifting on the lake, Big Bear has a wide range of activities available for all types of travelers. Top events to add to your itinerary and items to bring are highly dependent on which season you opt for Big Bear vacations.

December – March

Winter months in Big Bear are all things winter wonderland. If you’re into snow sports or just enjoy watching soft flakes falling from inside the warmth of a mountain cabin, winter in Big Bear is the perfect time to visit. Low temperatures range from 21-25 degrees during the December – March ski season, with highs at 47-52. You’ll want to bring layers and all of your warm winter gear to keep you warm out in the snow. If you have your own snowboard or skis, you can save on rental fees which run around $36 per day, with an additional $12 for a helmet.

March – October

Pack your swimsuit and sunscreen to enjoy warm summer days at Big Bear Lake. With average highs of 76-80 degrees in the summer months, the weather will be perfect for a day of swimming or paddling on the lake. Rent a kayak, paddle board, canoe, or jet ski and skim across the crystal-clear water. Bring pants and a jacket for chilly evenings, because even during summer months the temperature dips into the 40s. Summer temperatures offer the best of both worlds: warm water activities by day, and perfect campfire weather at night.

Hiking season is at its best March – October. With plenty of trails in the Big Bear area, you will have your choice of paths leading to jaw-dropping views. Try the popular Castle Rock Trail, a 2.6 mile out and back path leading to stunning lake, alpine, and mountain views. Bring layers and sturdy hiking shoes or boots for your trail adventures.
