Further Information on Young Eagles Flights

Offered through the Big Bear Airport Pilots Association, the Young Eagles flight program is a fantastic way for young people between the ages of eight and seventeen to experience the thrill and exhilaration of flying in a private plane while expanding their understanding of aviation.
In the Young Eagle Program, an EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) volunteer flies you and your children high over Big Bear on a scenic tour that focuses on teaching young ones the ins and outs of operating the aircraft. Information on the plane itself, aeronautical charts and maps, and pre-flight walk-around inspections of the plane help familiarize children with flying concepts prior to takeoff. As your kid prepares to embark, the pilot will explain details regarding the interior of the plane, such as safety belts, aircraft doors, and instrument panels. During the flight, your kid can even take control of the aircraft, if your pilot allows it! Once the flight is over, you can ask your pilot additional questions about flying.
Held at the Big Bear Airport on the second Saturday of each month during May through September, from 9:00am until 11:00am, the Young Eagles program is entirely free. Flights can last anywhere from fifteen to twenty minutes, and are dependent on the weather. No appointments or reservations are necessary to participate; children simply need to be accompanied by their parent or another adult and have a release of liability signed for them.
